I was initially invited to Football Camp in 2015. For three years, I declined, feeling too busy with the responsibilities of pastoring my church to add another packed week to my already full schedule. In the summer of 2018, I finally decided to try it, not knowing what to expect. Like most pastors, I had sent our young men to youth camps and rallies for years. I had found them beneficial, but I also noticed that the current climate in our country was increasingly targeting and attempting to dismantle traditional manhood—specifically, Biblical manhood. And I had done nothing to counter it.
My first few days at “Man Camp” blew me away! Yes, there’s football, and it’s highly competitive, but the emphasis on Scriptural manhood is consistently taught and modeled. I cannot think of another ministry for young men that attracts over 100 preachers who set aside an entire week in their schedules to build character and emphasize a personal relationship with Christ.
Football is used as a tool to teach life lessons, but the young men also hear preaching three times a day from some of the godliest and most Spirit-filled men of God in our country. It is an amazing place!
When I returned home from Football Camp, I told our church that this was a ministry we needed to support monthly. I shared what I had seen and experienced, and that very night; my church voted unanimously to prayerfully and financially support Football Camp.
There is no place like Football Camp in Dwight, Illinois. It has changed my life and the lives of everyone who attends!
