The Laymen League

Pastor Woodward and Bro. Booth have long been burdened to reach the next generation and strengthen the men who make up the Church. That is why Man Camp is excited to offer The Laymen League! This is not a league for men to play football, but it is an opportunity for Christian laymen to grow while experiencing Man Camp. Playing football at Man Camp is still available to all young men ages 10-19, but The Laymen League opens the door to those 20 and beyond. Your church men can hear the same preaching and eat the same excellent food, but we’ve added some additional seminar sessions aimed at your laymen’s needs, as well!

One of our goals is to challenge Christian men to follow their Pastor’s leading as he follows the Lord. One of the most significant examples of loyalty comes in 2 Samuel 23, the account of David’s Mighty Men. In verses 15-17, We see a beautiful picture of followship. David longed for a refreshing drink from the well of his hometown, Bethlehem. Despite overwhelming obstacles, three of David’s men overcame the enemy and brought the water to him. They were not commanded to do this as a military duty, instead acting out of love for their king!

Similarly, our followship should not be performed as a duty but as an act of devotion because we love the man God has placed in our lives. This type of loyalty starts with our worship of our Lord.

In verse 16, we read that David poured the water out on the ground! Did the three men waste their time and effort? No, David considered their actions so significant that he honored them by giving the water as a precious offering to the Lord. Likewise, our worship of the Lord may appear to some people as a waste of time and effort. From God’s perspective, our acts of worship have great value and refresh our Pastor’s heart.

Our desire for the Laymen League is to instill in the hearts of good men the importance of worshiping the Lord first while teaching them to love their Pastor, resulting in seeing our Churches grow stronger.
